In the week ending 16 September2022 thenet position of the Eurosystem in foreign currency (asset items2 and3 minus liability items7, 8 and9) increased by EUR1.3 billion to EUR348.1 billion.
The net balance of open market operations and standing facilities (asset item5 minus liability items2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and4) decreased by EUR3,272.1 billion to EUR-2,139.1 billion. This was due primarily to a reallocation of banks’ excess liquidity fromcurrent accounts(liability item 2.1) to thedeposit facility(liability item 2.2), pursuant to the decision to raise the deposit facility rate to above 0% as of 14 September 2022.
Base money (liability items1, 2.1 and2.2) rose by EUR9.3 billion to EUR6,384 billion.
